About

Imagine a blank slate. Imagine a board of whiteness not unlike a blank page or empty computer screen.

Rather than fill the slate with doodles, thoughts, ideas, or anything that could possibly develop into a story, fill the page with nothing. Keep it white.

Now, think of the slate as a place without stories, without books, film, music, paintings, drawings, sketches, and on and on. Not only this, but imagine two people on the slate, only neither can tell the other about herself or about her day or any thought in her head. Each may be able to speak, but not even a hint of story could emerge from between either pair of lips.

A place without stories. A place whose people know nothing of storytelling. This place and its people would not survive.

Very interesting and a nice start to writing. I think you are giving us launching pads for creativity and that’s great! I like how you turned the writing process on its head and said, “Keep it white.” I take that as saying don’t write just to write, write to tell a story, write for meaning, write for a purpose and don’t write until you have something to say.
